Welcome to the University of Michigan and to the University community. Congratulations on joining classmates who are among the state's and the nation's best and brightest.

This site contains policies that are important to you as a Michigan student. While the selection of policies is not intended to be all-inclusive, this site does describe many of your rights and responsibilities as a student at the University. Many of these policies have been written with extensive student input, and apply to all students. You are also encouraged to review the policies and regulations of your specific school or college.

Let me reiterate that as a Michigan student, you have both rights and responsibilities. We take seriously the assurance of these rights for every member of the community. Likewise, we expect each community member to fulfill his or her responsibilities. These policies are designed to support and maintain a scholarly community that values diversity and an inclusive educational environment.

You will notice some common themes after reading through these policies: respect for others, appreciation for diverse perspectives, and individual responsibility. We cherish these beliefs. They are crucial to a healthy learning environment.
